Arsenal Make Contact Over “Exciting” Forward Antonio Cordero Ahead of Potential Free Transfer

Arsenal have reportedly reached out to the representatives of highly-rated forward Antonio Cordero as they explore a potential free transfer this summer.
Mikel Arteta is currently dealing with a selection crisis, with Kai Havertz ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury sustained during Arsenal’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai. He joins Gabriel Jesus on the sidelines, who suffered an ACL rupture in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United. Additionally, Arsenal remain without both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, leaving them short on attacking options.
In response, Arteta has hinted at tactical adjustments, suggesting that players like Raheem Sterling and Leandro Trossard may need to adapt to different roles. However, Arsenal’s lack of attacking depth has drawn criticism, with pundit Teddy Sheringham arguing that selling Eddie Nketiah last summer was a mistake.
Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, interim sporting director Jason Ayto and Arsenal’s recruitment team have identified Malaga’s Antonio Cordero as a potential signing. The 18-year-old has been in fine form, contributing four goals and six assists in the 2024/25 season. Several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, Tottenham, West Ham, Aston Villa, Brighton, and Nottingham Forest, have also shown interest.
According to The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, Arsenal have initiated talks with Cordero’s agents. Although Newcastle are currently considered frontrunners, with reports suggesting they have agreed terms, Arsenal remain in contention as no deal is finalized until the player officially signs.
Football analyst Ben Mattinson has highlighted Cordero’s qualities, describing him as an exciting winger with the ability to play on both flanks. Comfortable crossing with either foot, he excels at delivering balls into the box from the right while also being a threat cutting inside from the left. With a high shot volume and strong off-the-ball movement, Cordero is regarded as a promising attacking talent.
