Arsenal Transfer Update: Striker Search Narrows and Major Deal Nears Completion
Mikel Arteta has guided Arsenal to a third straight second-place Premier League finish, but squad improvements are needed as their rivals gear up for stronger campaigns. While the Gunners continue to monitor Martin Zubimendi, attention has also shifted to reinforcing midfield and attack, with outgoings already underway.
Departures include Kieran Tierney and Jorginho, while loanees Neto and Raheem Sterling are set to return to their parent clubs. The club is expected to invest heavily this summer, with new sporting director Andrea Berta playing a pivotal role in shaping the next phase.
“We’re committed to building a winning team,” co-chair Josh Kroenke said in Arsenal’s matchday programme. “Andrea is an important piece in a strong, unified group backed by the board, focused on improving the right way — the Arsenal way.”
Alongside new arrivals, the club is also looking to secure long-term deals for key players.
Gabriel Nearing Contract Extension
Talks are advancing between Arsenal and defender Gabriel over a contract extension, per BBC Sport. The Brazilian has become a core part of the team and is under contract through 2027, like partner William Saliba. Arsenal want to avoid contract run-down risks, particularly amid interest from clubs like Real Madrid.
Since joining from Lille in 2020, Gabriel has made over 200 appearances and earned 13 Brazil caps during World Cup qualifying.
Striker Options Narrow to Two
Arsenal’s striker shortlist has reportedly been reduced to Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko. Mirror Football has analyzed both options, while Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson remained neutral on Gyokeres’ future.
“You never truly know if it’s the right choice until you’re in the club,” he told Aftonbladet. “There are many factors, including family, that affect such decisions.”
Ndicka to Stay Put
Despite Arsenal interest, Evan Ndicka is expected to remain at Roma. The Ivorian impressed throughout a turbulent season in Serie A and Europa League, and Corriere dello Sport reports he’s among eight “untouchable” players ahead of a new managerial era under Gian Piero Gasperini.
