Arsenal Reach Verbal Agreement with Viktor Gyökeres Amid Striker Hunt
Arsenal are expected to sign a new striker this summer after a noticeable dip in goals last season, scoring just 69 times in the Premier League—22 fewer than the year before.
The absence of a prolific No. 9 has been a clear issue, and the club’s hierarchy is planning to fix that in the upcoming transfer window.
According to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Arsenal are currently in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential deal for Benjamin Šeško.
Despite this, the Gunners are actively progressing on multiple targets to ensure they’re not left empty-handed if negotiations collapse.
While personal terms with Šeško remain unresolved, Arsenal have already secured a verbal agreement with Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres, who is viewed as a key alternative.
Arsenal have held a long-term interest in Šeško and previously tried to sign him last summer. He chose to renew with Leipzig, but after scoring 21 goals last season, Arsenal have reignited their interest.
Though his numbers aren’t outstanding, Šeško’s long-range shooting and raw potential make him an intriguing option. Leipzig are open to selling for £67 million, but Arsenal may try to spread payments to remain within Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) compliance.
They must also finalize terms with the player for a deal to go through.
If that move fails again, Gyökeres is ready and waiting. The Swedish international had a phenomenal season, scoring 54 goals for Sporting CP.
However, some question how his style will translate to the Premier League. Gyökeres turns 27 on June 4, and adapting to a side that faces deep defensive blocks like Arsenal could prove challenging without the space he enjoyed in Portugal.
Sporting are willing to sell for £59 million, and Arsenal may pull the trigger if they miss out on Šeško once more.
