Arsenal transfer update: Gunners eye Rodrygo as winger and striker targets emerge
Arsenal are exploring a move for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo as part of their summer plans to reinforce their attacking line. The Brazilian winger features prominently on their shortlist of left-sided options, which also includes Nico Williams, Leroy Sane, and Morgan Rogers.
New sporting director Andrea Berta, who joined in March, is currently evaluating top targets alongside manager Mikel Arteta. Their main priorities this window are signing a winger and a striker, with the goal of adding proven quality to the squad.
Reports in Spain suggest Rodrygo will soon meet with incoming Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso to clarify his future. Though he has three years left on his deal, his role next season remains uncertain following Madrid’s high-profile additions.
Arsenal are also working on striker reinforcements, with Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres, and Benjamin Sesko seen as primary candidates. However, competition is strong. Newcastle are determined to keep Isak—who is also being watched by Liverpool—while Manchester United and other European clubs are monitoring both Gyokeres and Sesko.
In midfield, the Gunners remain confident about signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, though a medical is still pending. The club is also on the lookout for a backup goalkeeper and youthful full-back options.
Meanwhile, Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte has confirmed the club’s intent to keep Nico Williams, who is believed to have a £50m release clause. Arsenal have shown interest, but Bilbao remain hopeful of convincing the Spanish winger to stay.
“We have a strong and exciting project,” Uriarte told El Correo. “Nico is a key part of that future, along with many others. It’s easier to grow when we keep our best players.”
