Arsenal to Submit Official Bid for Viktor Gyokeres as Striker Search Heats Up
Arsenal are set to submit a formal offer for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in the coming hours, according to Portuguese outlet Record (page 5).
The Gunners have been actively pursuing a new centre-forward, with their attention initially on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. However, momentum has shifted toward Gyokeres following talks between his representatives and Arsenal’s ownership.
Reports suggest Arsenal are now the club closest to making a concrete move, with a £68m price tag set by Sporting. Although Manchester United have also held discussions with Gyokeres’ agent, the Swedish forward is said to favour Arsenal due to their Champions League status.
Gyokeres, 27, had an outstanding season in 2024/25, netting 54 goals and adding 13 assists in 52 appearances. While Sporting were previously willing to let him go for around £51m plus add-ons, they’ve since raised their demands.
Despite the hike, Arsenal remain keen, and with Sesko talks stalling—largely due to Leipzig’s insistence on a full payment of his £68m release clause—the Gunners could now shift fully toward Gyokeres.
The striker is seen as a major upgrade on Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, both of whom failed to hit the 15-goal mark last season. Though there are questions about whether Gyokeres can replicate his form in the Premier League, Arsenal appear confident in his abilities.
If the Gunners follow through with a formal offer, it would be a clear sign they’ve moved on from Sesko and are ready to invest in a proven goal scorer in Gyokeres.
